How To Get 10,000 Steps In A Day

The benefits associated with walking regularly are well-noted. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, you can easily become fit just by increasing the number of steps that you walk each day. Doing so helps with weight maintenance, stress management, balance, and coordination. In fact, walking is also known to prevent medical conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.


The low-impact exercise can be done anywhere using minimal gear and equipment. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes and a pedometer or fitness tracker that measures the number of steps you’ve taken in a day. If you don’t have access to either device, downloading a step counter app onto your phone works just as well as the other two options.


Here is how to get 10,000 steps in a day no matter how busy your schedule may be:


  • Go for an early morning walk. Wake up 30 minutes earlier than usual. Lace up your walking shoes and go for a quick jaunt around the block. It’s a great way to engage your senses, practice mindfulness, and spend time outdoors before retreating to the confines of your car, cubicle or home. A short walk is all it takes to get your blood pumping and the step count started on your pedometer or fitness tracker.
  • Park as far from the entrance as you safely can. Rather than wait for someone to leave the nearest parking space to the building, park away from the door. That way, you’ll get extra steps in going to and from your vehicle. You can practice this exercise wherever you go. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the extra steps add up each day. Miles of territory will be covered by you once you get in the habit of walking more.
  • Hand deliver items. Rather than email or fax documents at work, why not bring them to the department they’re intended for? You can easily walk down the hall or to the next building over. Hand delivering the items ensures that the right person receives it. There is no chance of it landing in a SPAM file because you sent it electronically. Having the other person sign a sheet of paper acknowledging the receipt of a document provides you with proof in the event that an instance is questioned by upper management.
